Ever feel like you're just sucking at where you are in life right now?
You set a goal and don't see the progress as quickly as you expect.
2018-2019 was a frustratingly hard year in many ways and felt that my goals in life were never going to happen.
We had our third child. A couple months later we left a business we co-founded which was our sole source of income. Moved back to our hometown. My husband took a low paying job just to pay the bills. I felt like everything in life sucked and I was numb to the core. My health was poor, my habits were non-existent, on top of it all the baby and I weren't sleeping. Everything in my life felt inferior. I had this deep desire to become a person who had solid routines and habits. I admired those who did. They were my inspiration to get started.
As moms we likely have goals in many areas of life.
We have a goal to:
Keep the house clean more than 50% of the time (at least that's my goal ha!).
To eat healthy, lose weight, feel confident in a swimming suit, etc.
Be a better mom than we were yesterday.
Do more fun things with our kids.
Say kinder words to our spouse.
Maybe even earn money for our families.
You get the idea.
Yet, most days at the end of the day when we evaluate the day, we are so frustrated that our life isn’t better yet. We aren't where we want to be.
If you are anything like me, you struggle with some bit of perfection in life.
We want everything to go as planned and to run smoothly with no hiccups so we can see our lives get better right in front of us.
If it would just do that for us 100% of the time that would be great!
But alas we live in a fallen world and it doesn’t.
So how can we enjoy life and the process to achieve our goals?
We take the Netflix show approach.
Yes, yes you heard me right!
Think about it.
If you watch Netflix shows or have told others about shows on Netflix or even talked with someone who’s talked about shows on Netflix, at least one point in time someone has said “Just keep watching, it’ll get better!”.
Am I right?
If we can keep watching till the it gets better and muster through some boring episodes for the sake of entertainment, why in the world could we not do so for our own lives and goals.
Listen! Sister, life can suck sometimes. I get it. I’ve been through some crappy events and failed at many goals in my life. But it doesn’t have to stay that way!
I’m a pretty darn optimistic person and even during the crappy times of life I always knew that it was only momentary troubles and I was too focused on the episode I was in.
So what do we do?
We “keep watching" til it gets better. But don’t just wait. Work hard and watch your life unfold into a beautiful story by focusing not on what you haven’t accomplished yet but on who you are becoming.
Bit by bit, baby step by baby step.
Progress, even ever so slightly is still progress!
You are going to get frustrated but if you shift your mindset by making tiny changes then BE PATIENT for your life to get better and...IT WILL!!
Every time I start to get frustrated with where I am in my journey, I look back and think how much I have grown and learned since 2018/2019 when life sucked! I have grown so much just in those few years as a person that I can't even believe I'm becoming who I've always aspired to be.
I want that for you too!
If you want to master the incremental approach to achieve your goals I HIGHLY recommend James Clear's book, Atomic Habits.
It has been foundational to every single aspect of my life and being able to mentally handle each area by focusing on the tiny habits that I stack together daily!
I would love to hear from you on the areas in life you feel stuck in. How much have you grown in the last 2-3 years?
Don't beat yourself up now!
Now is the time for you to grow and remind yourself of how far you have come!
And just keep watching and working, it will get better!
I love you share the truth that life is hard sometimes! We ᘜᖇOᗯ and get stronger from those times. 😉
