The self-sabotage cycle is bruuuuutal!
Picture this:
You just finished watching a training that has you fired up and ready to crush your goals!
You set out with sheer excitement to chase after your goals. You are focused, you are motivated and you are running on the motivation from the training.
Then a week goes by and you are tired. You have a headache Monday so you don't put in the time towards your goals. The kids are bonkers and wild on Tuesday so it makes you exhausted and hard to get things done. The laundry is piled up from ignoring it all last week. You make an excuse and let yourself off the hook so you tell yourself tomorrow you will crush it. Wednesday comes and you don't get as much as you'd like but you get a little done. By Thursday you have't seen anything good come from the work last week and the one day you worked this week so you get down on yourself. You question, is this even worth it? Can I actually be consistent and put the time in to achieve my goals?
Can you relate?
Time and time again I repeated this cycle of self-sabotage. I knew deep down I wanted to accomplish big things with my health, business, writing and intentional family time. I just couldn't seem to figure out how to overcome.
There are many factors that cause self-sabotage.
The first, most impactful factor is lack of planning.
Motivation, though great, is fleeting and not a good strategy for hitting goals.
So what did I do?
I bought a planner!
I grabbed a planner that had the day broken down by the hour.
On Sunday's I plan out the upcoming week. I put in all the important appointments, calls, events, etc. Then I go through each day and I write down what I will be doing each hour in the time slot.
This gives me a direction to focus on. Trust me, this squirrel personality of mine needs something to guide me or else I get distracted. Maybe it's having 3 kids, maybe its my personality but either way I need all the cards in my favor to succeed and stay focused.
By planning my days like this I actually take the time to think about my days and what is the most important.
I literally put time in my calendar to hang out and play with my kids!
Let me add in a caveat.
Don't be so uptight about this schedule that you don't allow room for flexibility.
There are many times the time slots in my day have to shift, or something urgent and important comes up that I must attend to.
The point is to give yourself direction, put it down on paper and execute it.
Once I started doing this I literally stopped worrying and stressing about everything I had to do because I had already planned it out for the week.
Sounds amazing right!?
It 100% is, but planning your days not always easy because it's also easy not to do!
Easy is never really worth it anyways is it?
Doing harder things makes us better in ways that can glorify God.
As you consistently plan your days and execute it you will feel empowered over your day instead of defeated.
Don't allow self-sabotaging tendencies to run your life!
You have people to love on, people to serve and goals to hit!
So get to planning your days!
I hope this helps!
